Profile: Fruity (Lemon), Sweet (Milk chocolate, Hazelnut), Green

This coffee comes from the Bulambuli district of Mount Elgon region in eastern Uganda, approximately 50km northwest of Mbale, the capital of the Bugisu region. It's produced by a dozen smallholder farmers who each manage plots of 1-2 acres at elevations between 1,900 and 2,050 meters above sea level. The coffee trees vary greatly in age, with some planted as long as 70 years ago, growing in the shade of traditional trees or Matooke plantains, which serve both as food and cash crops. Bariguna, a small quality-focused company founded in 2020, partners directly with these farmers to improve their harvesting and post-harvest processing methods, with the aim of accessing the specialty coffee market. The company provides training in organic farming techniques and supports the entire process from hand-picking cherries to post-harvest processing and drying in a small family factory in Mbale.
